I Thought I Knew What Love Was

I thought I knew what love was. But God busted my bubble.

Now, I’m on a journey of discovering what it truly means to know, receive, and live in the agape love of God.

“You Don't Actively Love Her.”

Those were the words I heard God speak to my heart after one of the many times I had explained to Him that I loved someone in my life who was challenging to be around.

I said I loved her. I believed I loved her.

But God was showing me something deeper.

Where was the evidence of that love?

My words weren't always loving. My actions weren't always loving. Although I professed love for her before God, He was revealing that the love I spoke about wasn't being demonstrated in the way I treated her.

That realization changed something in me.

If God had to confront me about the way I loved, perhaps I didn't understand love as well as I thought I did.

Learning to Love God's Way

That encounter revealed something I needed to understand: my way of loving didn't measure up to God's standard of love.

And so began my journey to seek and understand love—God's way.

Jesus commands us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:30–31).

But I was learning that love is more than something we profess. Love must also be demonstrated through our hearts, words, choices, and actions.

Scripture tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8, 16). His love is the foundation and the standard.

Unlike human love, which can be influenced by circumstances, feelings, disappointments, and expectations, God's love is steadfast.

As we grow in relationship with Him, we begin to understand His heart. His love transforms us, teaching us to extend patience, kindness, grace, compassion, and truth to others.

We don't simply learn about His love. We learn to live in it.

Why Love's Culture Exists

Love's Culture was born from a desire to help others discover what God was teaching me:

His love is the foundation for how we live, grow, and love others.

I believe that knowing God's love changes everything. It transforms how we see Him, how we see ourselves, and how we relate to the people around us.

Through Scripture-centered books, devotionals, resources, and everyday expressions of faith, Love's Culture exists to encourage women to move beyond simply knowing about God and into a deeper, more personal relationship with Him.

My desire is to help women understand the difference between God's unconditional love and the often conditional love we experience in the world.

Because when we truly know His love, we can begin to live from that love and extend it to others.

Know His love. Live His love. Give His love.

My Hope for You

My hope is that Love's Culture becomes more than a place where you find inspiring books, resources, and products. I pray it becomes a place that encourages you to pursue the heart of God and experience His love in a deeper, more personal way.

Whether you're just beginning your relationship with God or have walked with Him for years, there is always more of His heart to discover.

You don't have to settle for simply knowing about God's love. You can experience His love, grow in your understanding of His character, and allow His truth to transform the way you live.

My prayer is that every resource you encounter here encourages you to draw closer to Him, become confident in His love for you, and reflect that love in your everyday life.

Because knowing His love is just the beginning. Living His love and giving His love is where transformation becomes visible.

With love,

Elyshia
